Our Story
For more than 70 years, God has been writing a story through Breezewood Church. Today, we are stepping into one of the most significant chapters in our history as we assume a new name and prepare our new home!
The story of our church is one woven by God’s grace and for God’s glory. Beginning in 1953 as a Bible study, in the decades that followed, Breezewood grew from a dozen faithful believers to now over 1200 people attending consistently each week. The name Breezewood was adopted as a mission to reach the surrounding community (Breezewood acres) with the gospel of Jesus. As our Church has grown, so has our mission. As we made room for the harvest, we began to feel God leading us to change our name to more adequately communicate the burden He has placed on our church. A name isn’t just what you’re called BY, it’s also what you’re called TO.
Our transition to CHURCH OF THE SANDHILLS is a clear declaration of our mission to reach one of the most neglected regions of North Carolina with the gospel of Jesus. We exist to make disciples in the Sandhills who believe in, become like, and boldly proclaim Jesus through daily encounters with Him!
As we have shared this vision we have watched our Church almost triple in size over the last four years. In 2026 alone we celebrated 177 baptisms and welcomed 111 new members! Currently, we are accommodating the growth by gathering for four different services every week in an 18,000 square foot meeting space, which seats approximately 315 people, forcing us to regularly overflow into additional rooms.
The Owen Drive Campus
This past year, God led us to purchase our future home on Owen Drive—a 62,000-square-foot campus with a 1,200-seat sanctuary, dedicated Student and Kids ministry facilities, and spaces for fellowship and discipleship. The campus is strategically positioned near the Fayetteville Regional Airport, the Crown Complex, and the area’s largest employer, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. It’s from this location we believe God is positioning us to be able to reach the greater Fayetteville area and surrounding Sandhills region! We chose to affectionately nickname this campus BASECAMP to make it clear, this is just our starting line, not our finish line!
When Moses sent 12 spies into the Promised Land in Numbers 13, two of them saw abundance where the other ten saw giants. Joshua and Caleb weren’t ignorant of the opposition, they just chose to see the opportunity. The promise before us has also come with its fair share of giants.
First, we needed to sell our existing campus on Legion Road, knowing that, traditionally, church properties do not sell quickly. Second, BASECAMP lacked sufficient land for parking, largely because of earlier construction phases and the subsequent sale of adjacent land.
After feeling led to approach the Seventh-day Adventist church directly behind BASECAMP, we learned that, remarkably, their congregation had outgrown its campus as well! God miraculously orchestrated an agreement to swap campuses, selling our Legion Road property and purchasing their property adjacent to BASECAMP, securing the additional land needed. Two giants fell at once!

GIANTS MUST FALL!
Another giant we currently face is funding the purchase and renovation for this campus. For more than 10 years our Church remained debt-free and owned our campus outright. After much prayer, consideration, and financial review, our Board of Elders made the decision to take on a $3.4 million loan to acquire the Owen Drive property.
Long before we knew where our future home would be, our church family began giving above and beyond their regular tithes to our Building Fund. Today, that fund has grown to more than $4.5 million. Last October, we challenged our members and regular attenders to “Take a Step” and prayerfully give toward the future of our Church. In just one month, our church family gave nearly $350,000.
This year, we are extending that invitation again, not only to our church family but also to friends, ministry partners, and those who embrace the vision of Church of the Sandhills. Only now we’re not asking you to simply “take a step” but rather declare GIANTS MUST FALL!
Renovating the main BASECAMP facility for minimum occupancy is estimated to cost approximately $8 million, leaving an immediate funding need of $3.5 million. In the future, we also plan to renovate our dedicated Kids and Student Ministry spaces, an additional investment estimated at $2–$3 million.
OUR IMMEDIATE NEED: $3.5 MILLION
OUR LONG-TERM FUNDRAISING GOAL: $6.5 MILLION
This is a significant vision, but we have seen God provide repeatedly. We know that where there is vision, there will be provision, and we are trusting God for what is still needed. As we approach this year’s GIANTS MUST FALL offering, would you prayerfully consider partnering with us through a special gift to the Building Fund?
Your partnership is about far more than funding a building. It is an investment in the people who will fill it—children and adults who will hear the Gospel, be discipled, and become equipped to boldly proclaim Jesus to the world.
For more than seven decades, faithful people have invested so the next generation would have a place to encounter God. Now it is our opportunity to prepare the way for those who will come after us. Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and for prayerfully considering how God might call you to be part of it!
